Things To Do And See In Crianlarich

Crianlarich Scotland

Crianlarich Things to do

Crianlarich might not be on your list for places to see and do while in Scotland, As to be fair it hasn’t got the castles like sterling, the History of Edinburgh or Glasgow or even the seaside like Oban. But what Crianlarich has is the feel of a local Scottish village with hours of open lands filled with hills and great scenery

About Crianlarich

Crianlarich, a village in the Stirling council area in the county of Perthshire, in the country of Scotland. It is 50 miles north of Glasgow and around 6 miles northeast of the head of Loch Lomond. Known for being in the middle of the West-Highland Way. The part of the West Highland way where Crianlarich is located is just as wonderful as the rest.

But the West-highland way is not the only place to go for a walk or a hike in the area, Crianlarich is known for its massive range of walks, from walks down by the River Fillan. The lookout point, or its many Monroes and the famous peak of Ben More.

The local area has a shop that covers nearly all your needs, pubs, restaurants and many places to stay.

But if that’s not enough for you Crianlarich is a wonderful base due to its very accessible train lines. With trains to Oban, Fort William and Glasgow. If coming via car you have great places local, like the small village of Killin or the Town of Callander

This Explains why I decided to live in Crianlarich for 5 months

What Is There To See And Do In Crianlarich

I’m going to put all the things you can see and do in categories, Manly for your ease. Especially as I could fill the internet with the amounts of different places you can walk to and around when you visit Crianlarich, this way it evens it out a little.

Hikes, Walks & Hills

I say Crianlarich (and if you know where I’m talking about) there is 90% you will reply with something to do with a walk, hike or hill. So if you want to know some of the favourites around the local area, here they are. (please note: this is nowhere near all of them)

Ben More
Ben More is the highest of the Crianlarich hills which makes it one of the favourites in the area to climb, with a marshy boggy start it’s not the easier or the nicest walk in the area but it makes up for it with its incredible views

West Highland way
Crianlarich is situated just a walk off the centre of the West Highland way which makes this a favourite place to stop off when walking the west highland way. Especially when travelling from Milngavie as this is a very difficult day and its well-deserved rest.

Crianlarich Lookout
A very simple walk in comparison when it comes to this list but I mention it, due to the fact yes the walk maybe around 10 minutes the lookout of Crianlarich is very impressive for the effort spent.

Ben Lui
This can be an extremely hard Mountain to climb. But It can be a great chance to bag a few Munros on the same day.

Walk down the River Fillain
This again is a very simple and flat walk. but this walk doesn’t really lead anywhere and will have you walking back the same way you came from, it can be relaxing a peaceful.

Falls Of Falloch
This is a favourite with photographers and videographers due to its wonderful scenic location. The waterfall is a favourite with long exposure photography

Fishing

I’m not going to lie, I personally know very little about fishing but, it’s said to have some of the best fishing spots around.
Here is a link to a Facebook group for fishing in the local area

Nearby places (easy to access places)

These places are easy to access by car, train or bus. To be fair Crianlarich is known for its central location as one of the Scotland rail home hubs years ago, but even today Crianlarich has got that easy to travel from feel.

Oban
A seaside town with great links to other islands. This area has everything you can want from the seaside town, beaches, docks and even great walks with wonderful lookouts

Check out what I do in Oban for Two Days.

Loch Lomond
Very Famous loch in Scotland, would say the second most famous, it’s only the second because no one has ever seen a monster here. But they have found breathtaking sights

Glasgow
Being the biggest city, with the easier access, just one train or just a single bus will take you to or from the centre of Glasgow. Glasgow is a wonderful city mixed with great nightlife, shops, history and people that are proud of their home city.

Tyndrum / Bridge of Orchy
Just down the road… or a day hike. This is normally the next stop of most people that travel to Crianlarich due to its location on the west highland way, The area is very beautiful, but a heads up phone signal is very hard to come by.

Killin
Known for the Falls of Dochart, which is stunning. But as a warning these rocks are very slippery, my elbows knows this so does my arse. A great walk around Killin can be the old train line.

Callander
One of the closest built up towns in the area around Crianlarich, perfect for light shopping or Visiting Bracklinn Falls And Callander Crags

Glencoe
If you’re looking for a location full of beautiful landscapes, untouched beautiful locations with great walks up mountains, around mountains and on the floor looking up at mountains this is the place for you

This Video shows off Glencoe’s Wonderful Views

Shops, Pubs & Places to stay

The local village is full of some of the friendliest people in Scotland, I don’t just say that as currently part of this community (at the time of writing). But the people in Crianlarich will help you in any way possible.

Shops

Crianlarich Store (Londis)
This shop is the local and only shop in Crianlarich but there hasn’t been a time I’ve walked in there and not found what I’m looking for. They have everything from basic hiking equipment to food to keep you going.

Cafe,Pubs and Restaurants

Station Tea Room
The perfect location for anyone waiting for the next train as it’s on the platform (you can’t miss it). I recommend a Tea and cake when you wait for your next train.

Rod & Reel
Been here a few times for a drink, but been recommended to try the steak and ale pie more times.

Best Western The Crianlarich Hotel
More of a sit-down food feel, even have stone-baked pizza ovens

Ben More Lodge
Slightly further out of Crianlarich, but worth the walk with its friendly service

Hotels

I have below a list of places you can stay in Crianlarich, I can’t give recommendations on the places below, one because I’ve only ever stayed in one place and the fact I would be very bias, as at the time of writing I work in the Crianlarich Hostel. If you have read any articles on this website I’m normally biased towards hostels at the best of times. So check out the reviews of the places on other sites and look out for reviews stating “Superstar Sean, Super Hero Sean or something how amazing Sean is (2021 June -Oct)”

If you want to stay at this Hostel in Crianlarich or even nosey at it, check it out on Hostelworld using my affiliated link. Using this link won’t cost you any more, the commission helps fund this site
