As much as I would love to write about all the amazing things that becoming a lifetime traveller will do for your life. There are a lot of things that will be destructive and make your life more difficult.

This post is a warning for those of you thinking about starting your first journey, or even your 100th as the more you travel the more problems that will occur.

Relationship

Friends you meet are still travelling And you see it online. You think the content would stop after a couple of months, but it’s years and the people you met on your 3-month trip are still travelling 10 years later.

Jobs

You no longer appreciate your holiday allowance as you know you’ll never get long enough to do a trip that long again until you retire.

The itch

You know when you get a scratch on the back and didn’t know it would feel that nice until you received it. Now you need that scratch, You Crave it.

Relationship

You have met someone, a friend who you had an incredible experience with, you promise to meet once a year in a different location around the world. But you gave up travel and now you just have guilt left.

Job

It has been a year since you last worked, and the person you trained to do your job is now your manager, You are not sure how they got the promotion so quickly. They must have been in the right place at the right time. It takes you another 3 years to get that position

The itch

You load up Google and search for flights once a month. One time you even put in your card details on a flight to Costa Rica but instead you went to Costa Coffee.

You have met someone on your travels and had some magical experiences, but now each time December rolls around you know the arrangements are going to start, it’s been 15 years but each year the same argument happens. You have tried therapy, rotas and even being apart. Nothing helps with the problem of where to spend Christmas

You no longer travel but you need change in your life. A workplace seems like a prison cell, the routine is killing you. You need to have some sort of change so you change your job every 6 months, this way you can travel to a new place of work.

The itch

The itch is no longer an itch, it’s a burning hole inside of you. You used to hate travel vloggers as they are over the top and annoy the hell out of you. But now you’re a fanboy of the Funny Backpacker and you say see you “sooon!” In a high-pitched tone every time you leave the house. Your wife hates you.

You no longer have any friends that you didn’t meet on the road, as your old ones are bored with your travel stories and can’t relate to you. Now you don’t travel, you’re alone. Even your mum and dad sold the family home, you have no one you can leach off of.

Job

Work is for people who listen to the man, you haven’t done this for 10 years now. You can’t hold down a job, as you don’t want to listen to no one and no one wants to listen to you.

The itch

The itch isn’t there anymore, as it’s taken over your body. You don’t know how to function without travel, it’s all you know. You don’t want to travel and society doesn’t want you either. How can you give up all that you know?
